I've got enough uploaded now that I'm beginning to move things around, adding pages, etc. It's difficult to even keep track of everything, so the more organized I can be, the better, with this project. Time will tell, ha! I just hope it provides hours of entertainment, reflection, and memories of bygone times!

I guess I've been so busy scanning things that I've not had time to blog. You might want to check out the "Other Stuff" page and you might find some more Brenda Lee things (that will be sporadic - as I organize and find things). Aw, heck, the whole website will be constantly changing; who am I kidding? hahaha ... it's already become more than I imagine it would be. I'm going to populate it, then edit, move, etc.
I do, I do ... not one, but ... buttons, buttons, and more buttons! The ones you wear to make a "statement", not the ones that are sewn on to material. Click the "Buttons" page, and enjoy!
Either I was raised in a very poor family or I am showing my age. I asked a younger person the other day if she had ever heard of the game "Button, Button, Who's Got the Button"? Of course not ... it's a game we used to play when it was inclement weather and we were stuck inside. Find a BIG button, one fairly easy to spot, once you find it. As a person is looking for the button, you tell them if they're "hot" or "cold", until they find that button. If there's more than one playing, then the one who finds it first, gets to hide it next! Since Dale Dohse is the inspiration behind this website, I would like to add a page dedicated to him. I would love to hear from his family, friends, and co-workers. Tell me how you felt about him, what he meant to you and, of course, I'd love to share stories! Send me photos, if you wish. That would be fun!
Feel free to write here, or use the "Write Me" tab to contact me privately. I would like permission to "edit" ... *smile* ... I've changed the face of the homepage and the Brenda Lee page. Even though I have left the website title, I elected to remove the "Bygone Times" at the top of each page. I researched the name and there is an awesome nostalgia business in England with the same name. Now you will simply see "Visions of the Past".
I am hoping someone will come forward (family) and be excited about what I found on my bookshelf.
This came to me as a 'forward'. Since I don't like forwards, I copied and pasted the content because I felt it relevant to share.
To Kill an American ~ written by an Australian Dentist You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!) "An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans. An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ... The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American." I've spent many hours during the past week scanning and uploading photos of Brenda Lee! What a treasure trove; I'm so enjoying this. I just wish I had more time to dedicate to it.
In some way or other, this website is trivia of 'bygone times'. Eventually it will also include my own things with a nostalgia theme! I hope you all enjoy taking a walk down Memory Lane, from my perspective. I have uploaded photos of seven scrapbooks, and the inside pages. Enjoy ...
I've created this website as a way to archive and share nostalgia memorabilia that has been passed on to me. I am, of sorts, now proud proprietor.
Dale Dohse, a special friend for more than 30 years, was quite a collector of things music, movies, t.v., etc. His largest collection is all things 'Brenda Lee'! Dale, this website is dedicated to you and your love of earlier times. It's my way to share your collections and memorabilia of times gone by with the world. |
