It's fascinating to watch these videos. These are poems I was reading and vinyl I was listening to, way back then. The 1960s and 1970s were a couple of decades that some would call the "rebellious times"; the Hippie Movement. Personally, I was a lover of folk and protest music. It was just a sign, of our times. It was pretty easy transitioning from the '50s, to the '60s (protests, just of a different nature). The '70s - I was on board musically, until the late 1970s, then my tastes began to change. The meaning of the words "rock 'n roll", and "classic rock" change, as I age (*smile*).

Brenda Lee Coming On Strong At Opryland February 21, 1988 Brenda Lee's going to be staying home in 1988. But don't get the idea that she'll be sitting around with her feet up. Lee, who spent 225 days on the road performing in 1987, said she'll appear in 260 performances at Nashville's Opryland USA theme park. Lee will become the first big-name performer to appear in the Opryland production, aptly called Music! Music! Music! Starring Brenda Lee. The 75- minute show will feature 22 dancers and singers and a 16-piece orchestra. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/keyword/brenda-lee/recent/2 Brenda Lee Gives Her Opryland Show Everything She's Got By Jack ''Hawkeye'' Hurst, June 19, 1988 Brenda Lee doesn't have a recording contract, but that doesn't keep her from singing six days a week.As the star of Music Music Music at Opryland USA in Nashville, the 43- year-old singer is belting out some of America's greatest songs.''I think there are 260 performances, which go until October,'' she said. ''I tried to pick songs that I liked -- and that I thought I wouldn't get sick of over a whole season. I've got to do them twice a day six days a week.''Opryland workers know Lee as a singer who gives the production everything she has. The tiny woman with the powerful voice has given command performances before European royalty, but she seems to muster just as much inspiration in front of 1,600 tourists. One little-known aspect of her career is that the Beatles were once her opening act while she was touring in England. "They were just a little band that started opening shows for me, and I thought they were fabulous," she says. "And every night they would do these different songs and at that point, the British invasion had not come to America. So I thought, 'Where did these songs come from?' So I talked to John and Paul, and they said, 'Well, we wrote all these songs.' I'm thinkin', 'My Lord.'" Brenda had the Beatles make a demo, which she brought back to her record company. "I brought a picture of them looking like they looked, like Teddy Boys, which was unlike our rockers," she says. "The company said, 'It'll never happen. They'll never make it.' About a year later, they came out with 'I Want to Hold Your Hand,' and the rest is history." |
