Dale Dohse and I met at the Omaha World-Herald in the early 1970s when we both crossed the picket line, for work. The first thing we found we had in common was 'the fifties' and 'Brenda Lee'. He passed a couple years ago.
Dale began his life-long relationship with Brenda Lee by meeting her on a playground at the Douglas County Fair in Omaha, Nebraska when he was about 12 years old. Unbeknownst to him, Brenda was the musical headliner that evening. He joined her fan club. Over the years, because of his fan dedication and proof he could be trusted he was eventually invited to shows, and even to her home. Dale loved sharing about the times he got to go see her and help at her shows! And I loved listening. Brenda considered Dale her friend.
It's so difficult to write about Dale, and be brief. He was a very colorful, eclectic, interesting, charismatic, caring individual. I'm thankful to have had him in my life. And thankful he, too, was a Brenda Lee fan; it was an instant bond.
My intention is to share Dale's various nostalgia collections (and, eventually, my own). I hope you enjoy this place of reflection . . . filled with visions of the past!
